Harold B. Zook was born in Chicago on February 27, 1920 years before he lived and worked in Pasadena and Corona Del Mar.
Zook’s first job was drafting for his father, Chicago architect, R. Harold Zook (between 1937-40) while studying at Cornell (from which he graduated in 1941 with his Bachelor of Architecture). Zook then worked as a draftsman for Consoer, Townsend, and Quinlan, and Battey and Childs, Architects-Engineers (in Chicago between 1941-1942); before moving over to Graham, Anderson, Probst and White, Architects (1942). Also that year, Zook served as draftsman for Shaw, Naess and Murphy, Architects before leaving Chicago.
After his services in the US Naval Reserve (circa 1944), and following the end of World War II, Zook was employed by Swiss-born architect Albert Frey as Designer for Clark and Frey, Architects (in Palm Springs between 1946-1947) before establishing himself in Pasadena with Bissner & Zook (1947-48) and then Harold B . Zook, Architect (1948-).
