Nationally recognized for his school designs, Brydegaard was born in Svendborg, Denmark and educated at University of Odense among other European schools. Arriving in the US in 1940, Herluf in San Diego by 1942 working as a draftsman for Kistner, Curtis & Wright at
He married Marguerite Nordahl, an Associate Professor of Education at San Diego State College, in 1942 in La Mesa and established his office in 1947.
