Joseph Fleischman Thomas

Architect | 1915

Born in Oak Hill, West Virginia Joseph secured his B. Arch from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1938 and served in the U.S. Navy between 1943-46. Before launching Neptune & Thomas Associates in Pasadena (in 1954) with Donald Neptune, he worked on his own as architect Joseph F. Thomas (1952-53). The firm designed York Hall (1966) on the University of California, San Diego campus.

Joseph F. Thomas was born in Oak Hill, West Virginia on March 23, 1915. He secured his B. Arch from Carnegie-Mellon University in 1938. He joined the Pasadena Chapter of the AIA in 1945 at the time he served the U.S. Navy (1943-46). Prior to Neptune & Thomas, he launched Joseph F. Thomas (1952-53). At this time Thomas lived at 330 San Miguel Road in Pasadena. Mr. Thomas was granted FAIA status in 1970.

The firm won an AIA honor award for Methodist Hospital of Southern California as well as Design Merit awards for Azusa High School, Neptune & Thomas Office Bldg, and UC San Diego’s York Hall.
