Joseph Y. Yamada

Landscape Architect | 1930-2020

Yamada’s background in landscape design started as a young man working as a gardener with his father in the early 1940s. As a student at Cal in the early 50s, Yamada would gain influence under Garrett Eckbo, Thomas Church and Lawrence Halparin. Yamada would carry these influences to San Diego lending his modern landscape design talents to an emerging group of San Diego modernist architects.
