Hanis Lloyde Therkelsen

Architect |

Therkelsen was born in Los Angeles and graduated with his BA from Cal in 1950. Therkelsen reportedly told at least one client he had studied with Frank Lloyd Wright and that he, his wife and 2 1/2 year old child lived in a tent at Taliesin. Whitey joined the San Diego chapter of the AIA in 1958, the same year he established his office in Del Mar.

Whitey Therkelsen was born in Los Angeles on January 27, 1925 and graduated with his BA from Cal in 1950. Therkelsen reportedly told at least one client he had studied with Frank Lloyd Wright and that he, his wife, and 2 1/2 year old child lived in a tent at Taliesin. Whitey joined the San Diego chapter of the AIA in 1958, the same year he established an office in Del Mar.

According to the family of one of Therkelesen’s clients, they “…appreciated Therkelsen because he designed the house around them, and asked “How do you live?", instead of forcing his ideas and ego on them… His office/home was on the southwest corner of Pine Needles Drive and Hidden Pines Lane, but the house was razed in the early 80's and never rebuilt.”

Dean Marshall interiors gained a great deal of notoriety for their published projects such as the Jungemann Residence and Robert Winsett Residence. The last known location of Mr. Therkelsen was in the late 1970's – he was in Hawaii living on a sailboat.
