Ruth Clark was born in Chicago, in 1920, and raised in Winnetka, IL. Following graduation from New Trier Township High School, Ruth attended Sarah Lawrence College (1939 – 1942). Following time with the Women’s Land Army in Illinois (1942), she left school to work in Ford’s Willow Run bomber factory in Ypsilanti, MI. (1943-46). In 1946, she met Svetozar Radaković, a Serbian and native of Belgrade, Yugoslavia. After returning to the US, Ruth attended Mills College (where she studied with F. Carlton Ball), Sarah Lawrence, and the University of Michigan. Following her BA degree, she attended the School for American Craftsmen.
Reuniting with ‘Toza’ in Paris, in 1953, the couple began exhibiting and working in France, Spain and Italy. By 1955, the young couple was in New York and Ruth was teaching jewelry at the University of Rochester and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). By 1958 the couple moved to Encinitas and established their studio.
