Ted Saito

Ted Saito, a San Diego artist who exhibited fine woodcut prints and welded steel sculptures as a member of the San Diego Art Guild, Saito was also a prolific and well-respected potter. It his work in clay for which he is best known.

Ted Saito, who had received his Bachelor's Degree in 1959 from the University of Colorado, had already become a member of the San Diego Potters Guild while completing his M.F.A. in ceramics at San Diego State College in 1964. He is listed as one of seven participating Guild members to show his pottery in 1965 at the Library Gallery located at the University of California, San Diego. Alongside Saito in this show were, David Stewart, Portia Bowne, Victoria Beck, Marvelle Stickney; Edward Wallace, and Trent Giani. In September of 1992, Julie Brooke, then president of the San Diego Potters Guild, organized a Chinese Ceramic Exchange Program and took a group of twenty potters to China. Two Guild members, Ted Saito and Julie Thompson, were sponsored by the Guild to demonstrate their skills, along with five other potters, at the Central Academy of Arts and Design in Beijing.
