Following World War II, Chappy and Jane Chapman lived in Hawaii for 3 years, following which they spent the rest of their lives in San Diego in a home that they, along with contractor George Eckle designed and built. The home was featured as ‘Lack of Money Was No Obstacle to Having a Beautiful Home’ in the January, 1959 issue of House Beautiful magazine. Neither Chappy nor Jane had any formal craft training prior to emabarking on a lifelong project of designing and detailing their home. The artwork that they both created and collected was integral to home, not just via décor and functional objects, but the home and landscape itself.
